How to choose an AC maintenance company in Riyadh: 9 criteria

Everyone advertises the same three words: fast, cheap, guaranteed. Here is what to check instead, and the two phone questions that separate a technician from a salesman.

Searching for AC maintenance in Riyadh returns dozens of companies with almost identical pages. Because the promises are identical, the decision usually comes down to whoever answers first or quotes lowest — and both are poor predictors of the outcome. The criteria below are the ones that actually correlate with a repair that lasts.

The nine criteria

  1. Diagnosis before price. A company that quotes a repair cost over the phone, before seeing the unit, is guessing or upselling.
  2. A written quote before work starts, with parts and labour separated.
  3. Readings recorded — pressure, vent temperature difference, current draw. Numbers make a claim checkable.
  4. Leak testing before any refrigerant is added.
  5. A stated workmanship warranty period, in writing on the invoice.
  6. Manufacturer warranty passed on for spare parts, with the box or receipt.
  7. A fixed, reachable phone number and a real address — not only a WhatsApp account.
  8. Night and holiday surcharges stated before dispatch, not added afterwards.
  9. Willingness to say “this does not need replacing”. A company that recommends a new unit for every fault is selling equipment, not service.

Two questions to ask on the phone

First: “Do you pressure test for leaks before refilling gas?” A yes means the company understands that a sealed system does not consume refrigerant. Second: “Will I get the readings in writing?” A technician who records numbers is accountable for them; one who refuses is asking you to trust an opinion.

Cheapest and best are different questions. The useful one is: what will this cost me over three years, including the visits I will not need?

Frequently asked questions

Is a big company always better than an independent technician?

Not automatically. What matters is whether readings are recorded, a written quote is given and a warranty is honoured. Some independents do all three; some large companies do none.

How much should a diagnostic visit cost in Riyadh?

Typically SAR 100–150, and it should be deducted from the invoice if you approve the repair. A “free” visit is usually recovered inside the repair price.

What warranty is reasonable?

Around 90 days on workmanship is standard for repairs, plus the manufacturer warranty on any part fitted. Anything with no written period is not a warranty.
